How do you want to finish?
Here we are, the first week of November. Happy first week of adjusting to daylight savings. Honest truth, why are we still doing that sh*t? I think I block it out of my memory every year because it makes me severely emo and seasonal depression is real. But at the end of the day, it is what it is and we are 7 weeks out from the start of another new year. That feels fake, but okay. I'm not ready to discuss my New Year's resolutions or my hopes and dreams for the coming year. Instead, I want to talk about how I want to close out this year's chapter. There's still so much time before that ball drops and I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in the "Well, I didn't get to it this year and it's too late now, so I'll just try again next year."
The cycle studio I used to teach at does a challenge at the end of every year called "Final 40". I love this so much. The holidays are coming, your plates are FULL, and you're spreading yourself in every direction possible. But what I loved and continue to love so much about Final 40 is it keeps you a priority and it keeps you at the forefront of your brain. In the last two months of the year (or the last 40 days), you can still be encouraged to stand up to a challenge, you can still try new things that make you uncomfortable, and you can still make time to feel proud of the hard work that you are putting in every day. Huge shoutout to my LifeCYCLE family. I'll see you during the holidays, my friends. This is a game-changer and shameless plug, if you haven't had a "Final 40, let's get it" mindset, I dare you to try it.
Before social media gets you buzzing about sharing the amazing things you will accomplish in 2025 (don't worry, we'll get to that at the end of December and also, that felt disgusting typing that year out), how do you want to finish this year? How do you want to close out another year of growth? Maybe the first 10 months of this year didn't go as planned. Let it go. Is there something you've been itching to try? Today's the perfect day to make that change.
It's still not too late to start something new or do things that make you feel proud.
If you feel yourself getting stuck in a funk or the fact that the sun is setting at 5pm is really knocking you down already (lol help us), I'm going to share my mindset moving into the last 7 weeks of 2024. I hope it resonates with you. I hope it sparks your interest. Most of all, I hope it encourages you to get out there and finish on top. It doesn't have to be perfect, it never has.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it never has.
How do I want to finish?
It's easy to give people advice. It's easy to sit here and type out the things that I want. The hardest part is making it happen. I'm creating a realistic and positive mindset. The list isn't long for me. I'm going to keep it simple, but this is how I want to end my year.
Give my body movement every day. This doesn't mean I have to hit the gym every single day. One thing that has always made me feel at ease is going outside. Sometimes all I need is a long walk to clear my head. There are a few workout classes that have made me feel a little nervous to give a try, but I'm going to try them anyway.
Make time for people who make me feel good. When the weather changes and my daylight is shorter, I find myself camping out in my room more or shutting down.
Eating well. Easier said than done, especially with the cold weather and holidays on deck! Check out number 6 :)
Give consistency to my creative outlet. I'm going to spend a little time each week pouring into my writing, it grounds me. Find something to create.
Make plans! I'm someone who loves to spend time alone to reset, but once I've done that I need to be out and with people. If I want to do something, I'm going to make a plan and not wait for someone else to do it for me.
Give myself grace.
We're going to stop the list there. Nothing on this list is so far-fetched that it can't be done. I'm not planning to overdo it for the last two months of the year. I'm planning to lead with love and enjoy myself. I'm not planning to put pressure on myself to be perfect. But I am still planning to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone. I did all 6 of these things on my list over the weekend. I spent the last three days with people who made me belly laugh until I had a headache. I got movement in every day, whether that was getting a full sweat workout in or just leisurely walking around the city to get bagels!
Now that you've read my list, what do you think your list looks like?
It doesn't have to look like mine. My main advice that I'll give for these last 7 weeks is don't wait around. If you want to do something, ask yourself, "What's stopping me?" If you want to go to a workout class, go. If there's someone you've been wanting to talk to or hang out with, ask. If there's a new creative outlet you want to attempt, try it. There's no better time than right now. Just don't forget about number 6 on that list. Enjoy right now. Enjoy making that magic happen. And if all else fails, put your headphones in, click play on a Noah Kahan playlist, and go to town. It's almost stick season y'all.
We got this.
